Bio:
I am a second-generation Sikh with a History and Political Science academic
background. I recently graduated from OISE/UT where I was selected to be a
member of the Alternate III School, Community and Global Connections
program. Much of the coursework in this program pertains to the elements
suggested by the title as well as a respect for diversity and the creation
of an inclusive classroom.
This past spring I worked at the Canadian Bureau for International Education
(CBIE) in Ottawa conducting extensive research on peace education. I
composed a proposal for a feasibility study for a Canadian Centre for Peace
Education that has been submitted to the International Development Research
Council (IDRC) for funding consideration and also completed a research
assignment around the concept of 'The Schoolhouse as the Central Construct
of Society'.
For September and October I worked with the Halton Multicultural Council as
an Anti-Discrimination Workshop Facilitator for Grade 7 students in the
Halton Catholic and Public Boards providing introductory level information
and activities on Immigration and Multiculturalism, Human Rights,
Definitions (stereotype, prejudice, bias, discrimination, racism etc.) and
"Where do I go from here?" discussions.
