THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON PEACE EDUCATION IN CANADA 

NOVEMBER 24 - 28, 2005, at McMASTER UNIVERSITY IN HAMILTON, ONTARIO, CANADA

Facilities are limited to 500 participants, so please book early.  Since space at the Conference is limited, registration must be on a first-come, first-served basis.  Only registered participants may attend sessions.  Registration fees include access to all sessions, four refreshment breaks, and two luncheons. No registrations will be processed without payment. 

Participants should make their own hotel arrangements and pay the hotel directly.   An html file is attached at http://www.peace.ca/HamiltonAccommodations.htm (ask for the McMaster University rate if applicable).  We are not recommending any one hotel or accommodation in particular, and we are not responsible for them.  To help mitigate costs of accommodation, we are trying to organize some home boarding.  Please indicate on the Registration Form your request for home boarding and for what dates.

Transportation to and from Hamilton, Ontario is the responsibility of the registrant. The closest airports are Hamilton airport (at Mount Hope) and Pearson International, on the north-west outskirts of Toronto.  NEED A SPECIAL RATE FOR TRANSPORTATION FROM/TO PEARSON AIRPORT? - SEE ATTACHED.

Complete the Conference Registration Form ATTACHED .  Cancellations are allowed up to November 10 with a 15% cancellation fee.  Though refunds are not possible for cancellations after November 10, registrants unable to attend can assign their participation to someone else.

B. OPTIONAL PRE- AND POST-CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES:

To compliment the professional development part of our Conference, we will hold the following Optional Workshops prior to the Conference (November 24 - 25, 2005) (indicate your choices):

Thursday, November 24 - 9:00 am - 5:00 pm [Location: Student Union Centre, 3rd Floor, CIBC Banquet Hall] - "The elders look back toward the young and help them find a future that the elders do not see." - Parker Palmer
This is in celebration of the International Day for Children (which is November 20).  We will have a full day workshop dedicated to "A World Fit For Children": co-designed and led by area youth for youth, the workshop will explore “Advancing School Peace Programs: What Youth Can Do To Build Cultures of Peace”.  There will be lots of time for dialogue among young people.  
  Note: while the workshop is primarily focussed on youth, "older people who are young at heart" are welcome to join in the fun ;-)  INVITATION LETTER TO TEACHERS & STUDENTS  A REPORT OF THE 2004 YOUTH DAY PROCEEDINGS - 5 STAR MUST READING

Thursday, November 18 - 4:00 - 5:00 pm [Location: Student Union Centre, 3rd Floor, CIBC Banquet Hall] - A social/cultural event  celebrating "A World Fit For Children".  Entertainment: various songs and dance of different cultures related to peace.  Youth are invited to bring and display their peace related art, music and projects.


Friday, November 25 - 9:00 am - 5:00 pm [Location: Student Union Centre, 3rd Floor, CIBC Banquet Hall] - Concurrent Sessions of ‘Best Cases/Practices’ in peace education.  This (and the Trade Fair Saturday and Sunday) will provide opportunity for people to disseminate information on innovative new and best practices in peace education, and will provide the opportunity for the audience to learn new methods, obtain new materials and ask questions, trade notes, etc.

Participants who ask for time slots to make their presentation will be asked to provide a summary and time required.  We plan on offering a large selection of choices, and conference participants can choose which sessions they want to attend.  Currently, the attached presentations are being offered.

Friday evening Social Event being planned for those who are in Hamilton - informal get together at a local Restaurant, near McMaster for dinner (pay as you go).  Target time to get together: 6:15 to 6:30 pm.  Workshop fee $100.00 CDN ($50.00 CDN to October 31; registration fees are waived for students under the age of 25).

To further develop the Leadership for Peace in Canada, we will hold a three-day Leadership and Peace Workshop on Monday November 21 to Wednesday November 23. ; see the separate agenda at http://www.peace.ca/leadershipworkshop2005.htm ).  Those peace leaders, educators and actionists who are able to join us are invited to do so. 


C. TRADE FAIR BOOTH FEES: $100.00(CDN).  Includes a 4 x 6 foot table and 2 chairs.  

NOTE: Registrants who wish to pay by credit card can print the  ATTACHED  form ( http://www.pacss.ca/pec/reg.php  ) and fax to Canadian Centres for Teaching Peace at (403) 938-4117.  Registrants paying by credit card will be charged in Canadian dollars. VISA or Mastercard will convert to the registrant’s home currency.  Credit card information should not be sent via e-mail.  On your Credit Card Statement, the vendor will be shown as Robert Stewart Management.

Our conferences are designed to cover our costs.  Any surplus is provided to the Canadian Peace Education Foundation.
