[Comments] = I absolutely applaud the work put into this site, if only there were more.  We need sites like this that tell the truth. Thankfully being Canadian, We are not corrupted by the American Gov. and the propaganda.  If only Americans weren't so gullible as to believe what they are told. Thankfully Canada has found a way through the good people of this country, to seperate themselves from this.  Which is why nations of the world like Canada and it's people (personal experiences have demonstrated this). As we are a quiet country who don't like to meddle in other countries problems unlike the U.S..  We strive for more diverse population as so we can better ourselves individually and as a country.

One thing, some of the links are not working, but the articles paint a good enough pic in your mind.
Please keep up this amazing work, you are getting the message through.

[SubjectOther] = Essay on Utopia
[Comments] = The quest for Utopia

Utopia – a fascinating concept many times bigger than the word itself and seemingly too good to be true. Is there such a perfect world, a society in which joy and bliss reign?

When asked about what an utopian society should be like, most people respond with the words “freedom, rights and equality.” However, I oppose thinking this way. In a society with unlimited rights, the authority will be forced into dilemmas in every decision it makes. A government that benefits one group of people may be viewed as a betrayer to others. Everyone in this world thinks differently, and it is impossible to satisfy all of us. For example, the legalization of the marijuana trade will cause marijuana addicts to view Canada as an Utopia. I don’t think that the rest of us will have a similar opinion.

Perhaps it is not the government, but we, the individuals who has the say. I will always remember President Kennedy’s famous words, “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” Certainly, this does not apply only to the United States, but to the whole world. Without the cooperation of people inside a society, the society would gradually collapse.

The big question is what makes people want to collaborate. The answer is simply striving toward a common goal. However, the idea that everyone would work toward the same objective is ridiculously impossible. Since we ate the infamous apple from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, we have become sinful and selfish. Some have even envisioned the human race exterminating itself in disastrous nuclear wars. If we want to achieve a common goal for the good of our society, we should forget such ideas as “personal freedom” and “inalienable rights”. We, as individuals, must accept the fact that the wishes of others may not necessarily be the desires of our own.

So here’s a tip: if you want to find Utopia, don’t go searching for that pot of gold on the other end of the rainbow.

I tell you for sure that Utopia is not attainable through a flawless constitution or a perfect government. However, if you envision an Utopia for our world and strive for that dream, you have already found it.

[Comments] = Dear Robert,

Thank you for your most informative and inspiring website, for your outstanding and longstanding leadership for peace, and for your offer of assisting aspiring peace teachers!

As a former nurse/counsellor in Correctional Service of Canada Psychiatric centre, I realize the utmost importance of finding peace within oneself and assisting others in doing so.  Violent thoughts start at a very early age--influenced by what a child experiences.

I am a poet, songwriter and new grandmother now.  Many of my songs are about self-esteem, Love, empowerment, and joy.  I will send you one in a separate e-mail.

Are you still in Edmonton?  That was my birthplace, and I now live near Vancouver.

With gratitude and Blessings to you,

[Comments] = Don't you all need funds to perfrom your work with? I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to find a plaque with "Julia Ward Howe's Original Mother's Day Proclamation of 1870" on it. It has been hard to find one offered for sale. Just the production and sale of this proclamation would help to spread the concept of women coming together for peace. My ATM card number is waiting.

My name is Rene LeBlanc, and I have just browsed your webpage on peace and justice issues, noticed your link to Fellowship of Reconciliation, and thought you might be interested in linking to this new resource, which includes material on such peacemakers as Jim Wallis, Thich Nhat Hanh, Thomas Merton, and Jun Yasuda:

Bruderhof Peacemakers Guide - Fighting For Peace
http://www.peacemakersguide.org/

Please consider linking to it at your links page at:
www.peace.ca/humanrighttopeace.htm

Site Description:
Anyone can be a peacemaker. The Bruderhof Peacemakers Guide was created to inspire and empower you to work for peace, and to arm you with living proof of the power of nonviolence to effect change and resolve conflicts. Some of the peacemakers featured on this website are famous, others obscure, but all have dedicated their lives to building a more peaceful and just world through nonviolent means. For each you will find a short biography, an original portrait, and links to further reading.

We've also supplied you with ammunition to help you convince those who doubt the practicality of nonviolence. In this section you'll find writings on nonviolence, reconciliation, conflict resolution, pacifism, and conscientious objection to military service, as well as freely downloadable e-books on peace-related themes. Don't miss our popular "This Week in Peacemaking History" calendar.

Thanks for your consideration,

Rene LeBlanc
