About the Canadian Peace Speakers Bureau

CPSB History

The Canadian Centres for Teaching Peace, and www.peace.ca , were incorporated as a nonprofit corporation under the Canada Corporation Act on September 23, 1997.  Since then, we have informed over 1,400,000 visitors to our web site, newsletters and numerous electronic discussion forums.  In the process, we have developed one of the largest databases and networks on peace, conflict and violence in the world.  In response to requests to speak at various conferences, meetings and organizations, the Canadian Peace Speakers Bureau was formed in 2004.

CPSB Philosophy

The Canadian Peace Initiative (“CPI”) is a process to simply provide the venues, support and guidance to ‘Open Space to Open Minds to Peace’.   It gave birth to the Canadian Culture of Peace Program, and the development of our extensive Peace Stakeholders Web.  Our CPSB speakers are challenged to help their various audiences understand issues of peace, conflict and violence, think critically about them and what they can do to make a difference in building a better world for our children and future generations.

Why CPSB?

Our speakers are Canadians who are wholly committed to proactive conflict transformation, peace and non-violence.  They are independent of any political party or governmental affiliation and are involved in democratic development, peace and globalization. While they conduct this work in Canada , their efforts reach and influence those working at the frontline in developing countries (more recently known as Majority World nations) and developed countries.  They are the chief architects of a culture of peace in Canada .  Using a transdisciplinary approach, this work has brought a focus to the peace movement in Canada . Our speakers, who come from a wide variety of ‘walks of life’, have created a central point from which ideas, influence and vision emanate for a culture of peace for Canada , and the world.  This vision has resulted in several major, forward-looking vehicles for human rights and peace, with global implications. We are convinced that this leadership and commitment to peace and human rights has paved the way for other nations to build a culture of peace in their societies.
